Sber CEO Gref says has no belief in Zuckerberg’s metaverse

MOSCOW, Dec 7 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Sber CEO German Gref on Tuesday denied existence of the Meta metaverse, the new name of Facebook, because technologies still limit creation of such virtual spaces.

“I don’t believe in the metaverse named after (Mark) Zuckerberg. Because, even after his speech, I had one more look on all his products, put on the (headset) Oculus and spent in it more than an hour for the first time in my life, because earlier I could not stand over 10 minutes,” Gref said at the Finopolis forum.

“I understood that perhaps you should spend there a month to get used to it. It’s uncomfortable, the pressure is serious even for an adult.”

Technologies are still the main deterrent in building metaverses. “A platform with all the attributes should be created first. The practice shows that only a handful of institutions in the world have managed to break this platform barrier, it’s not easy. Of course, the platform is a key driver to build a metaverse,” the top executive said.

Gref said nobody has succeeded in switching to a metaverse yet, but the trend in this direction is evident.
